“You’re as big a dick on your show as you are on any show.”
Have y’all read the transcript of Jon Stewart’s appearance on “Crossfire”? I didn’t know you were allowed to say “dick” on CNN.

i read that last week and ALMOST put it up on my site. i think they were really shocked that Stewart didn’t come as his ‘news anchor’ character on tv.

from the transcript:
JON STEWART, HOST: To their credit, once they found out Cat Stevens, who is of Islam, was on the plane, they immediately called out the Air Force and had the plane followed by a (INAUDIBLE)
haw! he actually said “Yusef Islam” as that is the man’s name now, not “is of islam” haw haw haw

And the line was they “had the plane followed by a moon shadow”. Reference to a Cat Stevens song. Duh. Those transcriptionists (is that the term?) need to pay attention.
If you have QuickTime, you can watch the video of the whole Jon Stewart appearance here:

Takes a while to load, but worth it.

Allow me to be the voice of dissent. While Jon Stewart was kinda funny, he was also mean-spirited. Tucker Carlson had a great point- Stewart was kissing Kerry’s butt during that “interview” he had, and then had the nerve to tell Crossfire that they were “hurting the country” by not being more objective and challenging the political spinners. Total hypocrisy.
I think Jon Stewart is funny, but it is clear that he had a major axe to grind and instead of using humor to debate Begala and Carlson on the merits of their program, he used personal attacks. Not that constructive if you ask me.

Randy, Jon already answered yr concern! His point, which he made joking about Crank Yankers, was that HE RUNS A FAKE NEWS SHOW–Crossfire is supposed to be REAL.
I really like Paul Begala, and generally agree with him. But Jon’s point–that him and Tucker are just shills for their respective sides–is ABSOLUTELY TRUE. They both just spin spin spin. They ask the same question, over and over–just from a different side.
Question from Tucker: Sir, isn’t it true that George Bush is AWESOME and that Kerry SUXXIT?
Same Question from Begala: Sir, isn’t it true that John Kerry is AWESOME and Bush SUXXIT?
Jon Stewart: I heard you wore weird pants. What’s up with that?

after watching the clip poobou pointed out, i got the idea that begala and carlson were somewhat blindsided by stewart–it was as if they didn’t know that he was appearing on the show with, as randy h said, an axe to grind. wouldn’t even stewart be a little put off by a guest who came out on stage and started attacking instead of promoting their shiz? ESPECIALLY if it was live?
that said, i wholeheartedly agree with stewart’s points. his show can’t be evaluated the same way as crossfire. he kinda shot himself in the foot by getting nasty about it, though. the thing that surprised me was when he called carlson a dick–i got the idea that he was REALLY calling him a dick. so much for elevated discourse.
that’s not to say i didn’t find it perfectly hilarious.

oh yeah. they thought he was gonna be the funny monkey making the ‘ha ha’. nope. tonite on the daily show he made a GREAT comment on their “SHOCk” at the network…its CROSSFiRE! someone had a firm…maybe hostile opinion and they were caught off guard!?!?! isn’t that what their show is about? doesn’t it exist only for the purpose?
heh.
