Every Moment.

So Wednesday night was the Rogue Wave show. I made broad proclamations that I was going to go, and then around 8:00 I decided there was no way I was going. (It was once determined that if I were a superhero, my name would be The Canceller — only you pronounce it cancellah.) I put on my pajama pants and settled in to watch Celebrity Charades. Then at 8:30, the phone rang, and it was Gram, and they were in town and headed to Jaxxie’s for dinner, and I could not say hey dude, I’m completely ditching you so I said instead cool man, I’ll see you over there. Rogue Wave is playing tonight at WC Don’s! And even though I usually go to bed at 9:30 (thus earning me the nickname “Matlock”), I am going to be there. Jaxxie made an awesome, beautiful flyer, found here. If you live in Jackson, y’all come out tonight. I will be there for at least 10-15 minutes. (more…)

So the Killen jury is deliberating, and last night they were deadlocked, 6-6. Killen’s lawyer is apparently considering it a “victory” at this point; Killen himself is “pleased.”

UPDATE: Killen was found guilty of manslaughter on all three counts! Read gorjus‘s take. (more…)

Interesting thing in Slate today about the Emmett Till case.

Update on the Killen trial: yesterday the old man pulled a Michael Jackson and went to the hospital complaining of shortness of breath and, uh, a headache. I’d have a headache too if I were him.

Anyway, click here for the latest report from the trial, which introduces details from the 1967 conspiracy trial transcripts like this:

“Wallace Miller testified at the ’67 trial about that back-room meeting in which he said Killen shared the details of the plot to kill the civil rights workers, including that he had gotten together the Klansmen who carried out the killings.”
