A Date with a Limp Handshake.

I put way too much value on storytelling. Because I love a good story, I often find myself in stupid situations that I got myself into just so I could tell people about them later.

For instance, at a terrible job several years ago, my boss threw out his back and could barely walk. We had a fundraiser that night, and he couldn’t get to the barbershop…so he asked me to shave his neck.

Crapulence and Fribblers.

Every day at this job I learn something new. Sometimes it is interesting, oftentimes it is not. Today’s nugget was about the location of Sebastopol in relation to Harpersville and Forest. However, I have been keeping a list of cool nuggets, just in case my application to the Nerd Olympics goes through and I am selected to represent my country.

Rules for Pleasant Living, Part I.

When I was teaching freshman comp and sophomore lit, I would often deviate from my lesson plan to impart some life wisdom to the kiddies. Many times heated discussions would ensue, which was exciting since they didn’t have much to say about Edmund Spenser (more on him later: he’s such a wuss!). The Metrocenter.

Since I work here in So-Jack, at lunch I have been going to the mall. You know, the old mall. They have a decent food court, and there is no danger that I will accidentally come back to work a few minutes early if I am lured into the Waldenbooks to read all the cupcake magazines that I am too cheap to actually buy. (Apparently not using your full hour is frowned upon; personally, I would like to come back after 30 minutes and then just leave 30 minutes early at the end of the day, but I guess that sort of thinking is what they are trying to discourage.)
