Sex (Before Marriage).
I have successfully avoided much further contact with the insane Jon Donne, but he replied today for the third or fourth time to the last message I sent him a few weeks ago, so I wrote him back and asked what was up. Here is his reply, which is so . . . something it makes me want to pull all my hair out:
I just started training for the marathon last Saturday to raise money for leukemia and lymphoma. I will send you my web site so you can keep track of my progress if you want. And the girl I was having sex (before marriage) with just emailed me. That’s about it right now.
I’m pretty sure I can never talk to him again. This person is 34 years old and used the term “sex (before marriage)” in all seriousness.
In related news, Sex (Before Marriage) is the name of my new band.

I’m personally a GIGANTIC fan.

That’s mainly awesome because you’d think that the before marriage part was implied. I don’t know many husbands who refer to their wives as “the girl I’m having sex with.” Although I should ask mine to start introducing me to people that way at parties and such. It’d probably make us seem infinitely more interesting.

surely he was meaning it in sarcastic seriousness.

I don’t think so. I think he was bragging that he had sex with someone other than his wife before, you know, he ever met her. Scandal!

oh, he was speaking about the time line of his having done it. ok, i get it. i thought he was just trying to earn some cool cred by letting you know he was acting buck wild and immoral or something.
ps. he could just be making all of this up. wife included. it wouldn’t be the first time.

I bet that girl – you know, the one who was having the sex (before marriage) – feels extra special right now.

I wrote him back that I thought it was weird to include that detail, since I didn’t refer to people I used to date as “that guy I was sleeping with.” I mean, not usually. Unless it was old what’s-his-name.

Also: I totally think he was bragging about being immoral. I mean, who uses the phrase “sex before marriage” except people who care deeply about how wrong it is? Me, I prefer the term “doing it.”

I think he was trying to make it clear that he doesn’t have extramarital sex. You know, in case you were interested.
